SRINAGAR: Union Minister for Water Resources Saifuddin Soz urged the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference to resume talks with New Delhi in the larger interest of the people of the State.
During his two-day visit to Kashmir, Mr. Soz addressed a large public meeting in Kralpora in Kupwara district. "The Hurriyat should resume talks with the Centre as dialogue is the only way to solve the Kashmir dispute. By conducting seminars outside the State and country, they'll get nothing," he said.
The atmosphere was conducive to resumption of talks, he said. "In Kashmir, people want to see an end to bloodshed. They are fed up with violence and there is a Government that wants to give them a chance to live in peace." Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh had pursued talks with the separatists as also with Pakistan. In spite of the Mumbai blasts, the peace process was not put on hold.
