Barring some parts of the region, people across North India got relief from the biting cold on Thursday as temperatures by and large hovered around normal levels.

Clear skies and a slight nip in the air greeted Delhiites on the nation's 63rd Republic Day, with the minimum temperatures remaining above normal. The low was recorded at 9.3 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal.

Parts of Kashmir Valley, meanwhile, had fresh snow even as the minimum temperature rose several notches. The tourist resort Pahalgam received 9 cm of snow, Kokernag 10 cm and Qazigung town 4 cm, said the weatherman.

Minimum temperatures continued to rise across Rajasthan, where the low ranged from 5.4 to 14.8. A bright sunny afternoon greeted people in Uttar Pradesh, though temperatures in some eastern districts remained below normal.

The cold wave, however, was back in Punjab and Haryana, with Amritsar coldest at 4.3. — PTI
