With the objective of helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which contribute 43 per cent to the nation's gross domestic produce, face the challenges of globalisation, the Madras and Madurai Management Associations will hold the 15{+t}{+h}regional conclave on ‘Empowering growth of SMEs' here on November 19.

Organised in association with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, a political foundation in Germany which had some of the best SMEs in the world, the conclave would have five sessions, with experts talking about various aspects such as government concessions, export/imports, and so on, accessing credit and upgrading technology.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Madras Management Association executive director R. Vijayakumar said that southern districts of Tamil Nadu have a large number of SMEs, which could benefit from this seminar.

He said that the association had decided to reach out to other places and take professional management to the fast-growing cities.

Innovation, a topic that would be dealt with during the seminar, was essential for entrepreneurs to survive the global competition.

Terming small industries as the backbone of the country's economy, he said that the sector needed a lot of support.
