Internationally-acclaimed sculptor and artist Shivasharanappa B. Uppin (67) passed away here on Friday after a brief illness.

Mr. Uppin leaves behind his two wives and five sons.

He was the president of Ideal Fine Arts Society and founder president of Chetan Youth Forum, which runs a chain of educational institutions.

Mr. Uppin was a student of legendary artist S.M. Pandit, whose daughter Mangala, who is also an artist, he married later.

He conducted several painting and sculptors’ workshops and symposiums in Gulbarga district and hosted an International Sculptors’ workshop in Gulbarga in the 1990s. Many of his works are exhibited in museums within and outside the country and his paintings adorn the walls of many art galleries and private collectors. The mortal remains of Mr. Uppin were buried in his farm house later in the evening.
