Shinde to lay foundation stone for Kudgi plant

Large- and Medium-scale Industries Minister and district in-charge Murugesh Nirani stated that the foundation stone for 4000-MW Kudgi thermal power plant would be laid by Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde after the 2012-13 budget was presented.

‘Land acquired'

Addressing presspersons after unfurling the national flag at the 63{+r}{+d}Republic Day celebrations here on Thursday, he said that 2,944 acres of land has been acquired for the first phase of the 2400-MW power plant and compensation totalling Rs. 123 crore had been paid to farmers. The process of acquiring more land would be completed shortly, he added.

Compensation issue

Some of the farmers in the proposed project area are demanding more compensation than fixed by the Government and the issue would be sorted out by holding discussions with the farmers concerned. Even those who have already been paid the compensation, would be paid the difference amount after the revised compensation amount is fixed, the Minister added.

The State Government has released Rs. 6.5 crore for tackling drinking water shortage and Rs. 15 lakh for providing fodder to cattle. Goshalas have been opened at Babaleshwar, Arakeri, Gunaki, Chadchan, Jigjinagi, Jodgudi and Halgunaki villages. The district administration has been instructed to open goshalas in other place depending on requirement keeping drought situation in mind, he said.

Steps have been taken to supply drinking water to 27 villages in the district through 57 tankers. The central team of officials had also visited the district to review drought situation.

Proposal

The district administration has submitted a proposal seeking Rs. 12 crore for supply of drinking water, Rs. 5.4 crore for supply of fodder and Rs 1.31 crore for supply of fodder, Rs.13.90 crore for taking precautionary measure to stop spread of diseases and Rs. 19 crore for providing crop loss compensation, he said.

Earlier, the Minister inspected the guard of honour.
