Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde arrived at Tirupati/Tirumala on Saturday on a two-day pilgrimage.
After flying into Tirupati airport by a special aircraft, the Home Minister visited the temple of Goddess Padmavathi at Tiruchanoor and offered prayers to the deity after temple priests and officials gave him the conventional honours.
Mr. Shinde also took part in the ‘Unjal Seva’ (Cradle Festival) where the bejewelled deity of the Goddess mounted on an ornamental cradle was gently rocked by the priests .
Mr. Shinde would stay overnight at Tirumala, the abode of Lord Venkateswara for a darshan of the Lord. He is expected to leave for Vijayawada en route to Narasapuram on Sunday morning for an official programme.
