Seven Nationalist Congress Party workers, including a former Mayor Sangram Jagtap, were arrested on Friday in Ahmednagar for attacking Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray’s car earlier this week. The NCP attack on Tuesday night led to several collisions between the two parties across Maharashtra on Wednesday.

Inspector Shankarrao Deshmukh said that while a case of rioting was registered against 70 NCP people, only seven who were arrested on Friday were named. They were produced in court and remanded in magisterial custody.”

The NCP was provoked by Mr. Thackeray’s criticism, pointing out its failure to curb the drought situation, at his rally in Solapur last week. The attack on his convoy was met with equal aggression by MNS workers.

On Thursday, four MNS workers were arrested here for vandalising an NCP office.
