The High Court on Thursday permitted seven NCC cadets with beards to appear for the supplementary exam for the NCC “C” certificate to be held on March 30 and 31. They were not allowed to appear for the examination in February because they had beards. Justice B.S. Patil, however, said that the results of their examinations would be subject to the outcome of their petitions.

The petitioner-cadets, who are students of pre-university and undergraduate courses, contended that they had excelled in many areas in the NCC, including sports. They pointed out that they had received trophies for their excellent performance from NCC officers and none of them raised any objection about their being bearded.
