AHMEDABAD: The Godhra police on Friday prevented Mumbai-based social activist and convener of the Citizens for Justice and Peace Teesta Setalvad and 15 others from entering the S6 coach of the Sabarmati Express to pay homage to the 59 kar sevaks killed in a fire seven years ago.

Ms. Setalvad and her supporters tried to visit the coach still kept at the yard of the Godhra railway station on the occasion of the anniversary of the train carnage that sparked unprecedented mayhem and massacre of minorities in Gujarat in 2002.

The police said she was not allowed to board the coach because she did not take the permission of the court to enter it. The coach has been attached by the local court till the disposal of the train carnage case, the hearing of which is being held in-camera by a designated court under the Prevention of Terrorism Act inside the high-security Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad.
