He manipulated a corruption case
Superintendent of Police Manik Lal Majumder on Tuesday was held guilty under various IPC sections and sent to judicial custody by West Tripura Additional District and Sessions Judge for gross violation of rules to manipulate a corruption case.
The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Thursday.
The case relates to a CID investigation of 1998 against then director of Foods, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Aparna Das.
“She had forged the signature of a subordinate employee to give away some contracts to a person. The director was bribed to commit the unlawful act,” said a senior public prosecutor.
After the truth came to light, the case was entrusted to the CID.
However, Mr. Majumder, as Additional Superintendent of the CID, destroyed evidence, lied before the court and derailed the investigation to save Ms. Das.
In 2009, the court ordered registration of an FIR against Mr. Majumder.
