She has not only stormed the male bastion but has also achieved a rare distinction of being the first person from the Scheduled Castes to take the top rank in the English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu) entrance test.
Priya. P from Kozhikode topped the entrance test conducted by Eflu for admitting students to the BA Hons (English) programme and in the process also became the first girl to do so. “I am in love with books and perhaps that led to my passion towards English literature,” Priya told The Hindu from Kozhikode.
Such was the passion for literature that she convinced her father, a DGM in BSNL, who was keen on her joining an engineering course.
“After the first rank, my parents now just cannot deny me the opportunity to study literature,” said the student of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 in Kozhikode.
She scored a high of 89 per cent in the entrance test countrywide.
