Lucknow: Students of the Lucknow University on Sunday pelted stones at the convoy of the Samajwadi Party’s Lok Sabha candidate Sanjay Dutt, damaging some vehicles. They alleged that they were ignored by him.
The incident took place when Mr. Dutt was coming out of the bungalow of a professor on the campus.
The students gathered outside the bungalow and started raising slogans such as Sanju Baba bahar aao (Sanjay, please come out). However, Mr. Dutt, along with SP leader Virendra Bhatia, continued to hold talks with the professor and did not come out. When Mr. Dutt came out and tried to leave the place in haste, they threw stones at vehicles, damaging some of them. Some security personnel were also stated to be injured in the incident.
Asked about the incident, Mr. Bhatia said some students pelted stones as they could not get autographs. “Nothing major happened. Some students pelted a few stones. No one was injured,” he said.
“We just wanted to see Mr. Dutt. He is contesting elections from Lucknow and he should meet us,” a student said.
Speaking to journalists in New Delhi, SP general secretary Amar Singh said he would raise the issue of security for the actor with the Prime Minister and the National Security Adviser. “It is a serious matter.” — PTI
