Mumbai/Pune: Four days after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt is all set to walk out of a Pune jail on Thursday.

The trial court in Mumbai, which convicted him in the 1993 serial blasts case, on Wednesday issued the order for Dutt’s release after the actor’s lawyers completed the formalities for his release from Yeravada jail in Pune.

Film producer Nitin Manmohan and Dutt’s friend Pankaj Kharbanda, who are the sureties for the actor, appeared before the special TADA court where they submitted bonds required of them. Following this, the court, which sentenced Dutt to six years’ jail term, issued his release order.

However, since the order could not reach Yeravada jail in time, it will be given to the jail authorities on Thursday, Dutt’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde said. Dutt, sentenced to six years imprisonment on July 31 under the Arms Act by the TADA court for illegal possession of weapons, was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on Monday.

The actor has to surrender once he receives the copy of his conviction order and then seek regular bail from the court. — PTI
