S. Ramachandran passes away

S. Ramachandran, former Senior Reporter of The Hindu, died in a private hospital here on Wednesday. He was 87. He is survived by his wife and a son.

Mr. Ramachandran began his career in the Army as Commissioned Officer and held the rank of Captain at the time of release. He later joined Indian Express in Chennai as Reporter. In August 1953, he joined The Hindu in Kolkata.

He served the paper in Kolkata in two spells — 1953-1960 and 1964-1971. During 1960-1964 and 1971-1988, he was posted in Chennai. After serving The Hindu for 35 years, he retired in May 1988.
