Rayalaseema Rashtra Samiti's (RRS) president Kuncham Ramasubba Reddy's fast unto death demanding creation of greater Rayalaseema entered the fifth day on Monday.
Speaking to The Hindu at the protest camp, he wanted the Union government consider the demand for creation of a separate State of greater Rayalaseema by merging with it Tumkur and Kolar districts of Karnataka. He demanded that the Centre issue a statement to this effect in the event of creation of a separate Telangana State.
He wanted the State government to address the development concerns of the region on the basis of the Sri Krishna Committee report on the status of development of the Rayalaseema region in comparison to the other regions of the State.
He demanded that the government immediately take up construction of all the proposed irrigation projects in the region.
“We also ask the government to take up laying of new roads and four-laning of the national highways passing through the region. This will develop connectivity with the rest of the country, giving new avenues of growth to the people of the region,” he said.
Meanwhile, doctors said the health condition of Mr. Ramasubba Reddy was fine.
