Distribution of assistance, felicitation of persons for excellence in various fields mark celebrations
Pomp and gaiety marked Republic Day celebration in the district on Thursday. Collector V. Shobana hoisted the Tricolour and took the salute at an impressive parade and inspected the guard of honour at the Municipal Thiruvalluvar Grounds here. Superintendent of Police Santhosh Kumar accompanied her.
The Collector also gave away welfare assistance to the tune of Rs.89.79 lakh to 319 beneficiaries. She honoured 16 police personnel with the Chief Minister's Medals for meritorious service. Certificate of merit was also given away to 26 persons including four from the Revenue Department, six from the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, and 16 from the Education Department. Ms.Shobana honoured 83 freedom fighters and their kin by adorning them with a shawl each.
Krishnarayapuram MLA S.Kamaraj, DRO T.Christhuraj, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, T.Murugkan, Additional SP Rajan, RDO S.Shanthi, district panchayat chairperson Geetha Manivannan, DSP R.Manokaran, district supply officer Gnanasekaran, sports officer Punniyamoorthy, Karur Municipal Chairman M.Selvaraj, project officer, Mahalir Thittam, Samuel Inbaraj, participated.
A total of 190 beneficiaries got assistance and loans amounting to Rs.71.12 lakh . While agriculture department sanctioned inputs and implements worth Rs.2.24 lakh to nine beneficiaries, ex-servicemen welfare department and TAHDCO granted assistance worth Rs.34.76 lakh to 16 persons. The agricultural engineering department sanctioned power tiller and tractor and other implements worth Rs.22.23 lakh to 50 persons.
Collector B.Maheswari hoisted the Tricolour, and accompanied by R.Tamil Chandran, SP, inspected the guard of honour. She also distributed Chief Minister's Police Medal to 22 police personnel and commendation certificates to six others. Four revenue department officials, nine rural development department officials, and three from the agriculture and horticulture departments each, were honoured with commendation certificates. Twenty persons were given certificates for cent per cent sale of TB stamps.
Collector Darez Ahmed hoisted the National Flag at a colourful function held at the sports stadium here.
Accompanied by Rupesh Kumar Meena, Superintendent of Police, he witnessed the parade and inspected the guard of honour .
Mr.Ahmed honoured 40 freedom fighters and their wards, and presented Chief Minister's medals to 12 police personnel, and commendation certificates to 26 others. He also presented commendation certificates to 92 government officials. Assistance worth Rs.83 lakh was given to 243 beneficiaries.
The district disabled welfare department sanctioned wheel chair and other assistive device to nine persons worth Rs.31,500, while 17 persons got prizes and revolving fund totalling Rs.6.19 lakh under Mahalir Thittam.
Two persons got Rs.8.50 lakh under the NABARD-sponsored scheme through cooperation department. R.Tamil Selvan, MLA, M.A.Subramanian, DRO, Sakunthala Govindan, district panchayat chairperson, were present.
Honouring freedom fighters, distribution of Chief Minister's medals to police personnel, and distribution of commendation certificates to officials marked the Republic Day celebrations here on Thursday. Collector Anu George, hoisted the National Flag. Accompanied by Jayagowri, Superintendent of Police, she witnessed a colourful parade presented by the police, home guards, NCC cadets and also accepted the guard of honour. She honoured freedom fighters with shawls.
