Questioning the practice of frequent resignations by legislators, who owe allegiance to individual leaders instead of the Constitution, a petition has been submitted to the Speaker seeking rejection of such resignation.
Mr. A.K.V. Jogi Naidu, an advocate hailing from Vizianagaram, submitted a petition to Speaker Nadendla Manohar, invoking Article 188 of the Constitution.
The MLAs’ right to resign was subject to the Constitution and the rules of the House. After their election, MLAs should faithfully discharge their duty as legislators. However, Bobbili MLA Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao and Eluru MLA Alla Nani handed over their resignations on June 4 beyond the reasons, he contended.
