Red sander trees were cut down and smuggled by miscreants from the social forestry plantation area near Walajah. Following this, the Forest Department has filed a case at the Kaveripakkam police station. According to District Forest Officer-Vellore T.V. Manjunatha, some persons had cut down 14 red sander trees in the social forestry plantation area in Pakkirimalai in Bhagyavalli panchayat. “They had taken the main trunk area of 11 trees and left three trees on the spot,” he said. “They could have cut down the trees on Saturday or Sunday. The value of the trees taken is about Rs. 1.25 lakh to Rs. 1.5 lakh.”
