The bridge between the proposed Kurikota and Nawadagi stations to cost Rs. 12.6 crore

Union Railway Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge has said that Rs. 1,500 crore has been allocated in the Railway Budget for the ongoing projects in Karnataka.

He was speaking on Tuesday after laying the foundation stone for the Rs. 12.60-crore railway bridge across River Bennethora on the Gulbarga-Bidar new railway line between the proposed Kurikota and Nawadagi stations in Gulbarga taluk. The construction of the railway bridge would be completed in two years. Mr. Kharge said that the Railways has floated tenders for the drilling of the Margutti tunnel and if the response is poor, the Railways would take up the work on its own and complete it at the earliest. The work, however, is likely to begin after six months.

On the demand for sanctioning a station at Mahagoan on the Gulbarga-Bidar line, Mr. Kharge said that Mahagoan station would be included in the proposal.

Mr. Kharge attributed slow progress in the work on the Gulbarga-Bidar railway line to inadequate allocation of funds and delay in land acquisition. This year, the Railway Ministry has allocated Rs. 120 crore for the Gulbarga-Bidar railway line project, he added.

Linking Northeast India

Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge also said on the occasion that Rs. 400 crore has been sanctioned for developing rail infrastructure in Northeast India. According to him, an estimated sum of Rs. 2,000 crore would be required to improve rail connectivity between the Northeast Indian States and major cities in the country.

The former Chief Minister and MP N. Dharam Singh said that allocation of Rs. 120 crore in the Railway Budget for the Gulbarga-Bidar railway line project was the highest so far.

BJP MP Basavaraj Patil Sedam said that Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge’s commitment to bring new projects to the Hyderabad Karnataka region was unmatched.

General Manager of the South Central Railways D.P. Pandey said that the 270-km Raichur-Gadhwal railway line would be inaugurated next month. The work on the Gulbarga-Bidar railway line would be speeded up.

Railway Board Member (Engineering) Subhodh Jain spoke.
