Asks why is he afraid of judicial investigation
Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Pannian Ravindran has said new developments in the solar scam had made it imperative to have Chief Minister Oommen Chandy summoned for questioning.
At a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Ravindran alleged that the Chief Minister and the Home Minister were competing with each other to shield the culprits involved in the scam and destroy evidence.
This was clear from the Home Minister’s statement on Friday that two CDs containing the phone call details of Saritha S. Nair, an accused in the solar scam, were missing and the Chief Minister’s assertion that the CCTV recordings in his office would be stored only for 14 days.
He asked the investigation team why it had not till now thought about taking into custody the CCTV hard disk at the Chief Minister’s office.
The Chief Minister, ever since the scam broke out, had been trying to downplay the dimension of the offence perpetrated by Saritha and the other accused Biju Radhakrishnan, he said.
Now it had come to light more than a hundred people were cheated of large sums of money by the persons behind the fraudulent Team Solar company, he said.
Mr. Ravindran said till now there had been no effort on the part of the investigation team to take into custody and question Salimraj, Jikkumon and the Delhi-based Thomas Kuruvila, who too stood linked to the crime by the evidence it had already in its possession.
“If Mr. Chandy continued as the Chief Minister, many evidence in this case will be destroyed,” Mr. Ravindran pointed out.
