Telugu Desam leader Kadiam Srihari has asked the State government to take immediate steps through the Central Water Commission (CWC) to quantify the Godavari water being utilised by Maharashtra above Sriramsagar.
Speaking at an all-party meet on the Babli project on Thursday, Mr. Srihari said any finding that the utilisation by Maharashtra is in excess of its 60 tmc ft allocation will form a clear basis for AP filing a review petition against the recent Supreme Court ruling in the Babli case.
The assessment survey should cover the river stretch above Sriramsagar (SRSP) and below Paithan dam in Maharashtra.
Mr. Srihari, who was accompanied by E. Dayakar Rao, offered his party’s unstinted support to the government on the matter. On the other hand, a TRS team comprising P. Srinivas Reddy, B. Vinod Kumar and A. Vidyasagar demanded action against the construction of 11 other projects by Maharashtra across the Godavarithrough which, they said, it was already using more than 60 tmc ft.
YSR Congress leaders S. Venkateswarlu, B. Goverdan Reddy and K. K. Mahender Reddy expressed happiness at the CM’s promise to finalise tenders for Kanthanapalli.
