Chief Minister gives away State culture awards

The government will help the Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University for Arts and Science realise its development goals, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

He was addressing a function held at Kerala Kalamandalam at Cheruthururthy, near here, on Saturday, to present the State’s culture awards in various categories.

“The government is planning various projects for the Kalamandalam’s development. An amount of Rs.12.5 crore has been allotted in the budget for the projects,” he said. Mr. Chandy said the government’s objective was to develop Kalamandalam as a model for culture development.

Cash prize

He presented the awards to Kathakali artiste Kalamandalam Vasu Pisharoty; percussion maestro Peruvanam Kuttan Marar; and classical dancer Kalamandalam Saraswathi at the function.

The awards carried a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh, citation, and a certificate. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a library at the Kalamandalam and three post-graduate courses newly started at the university.

Minister for Cultural Affairs K.C. Joseph presided over the function. P.K. Biju MP; K. Radhakrishnan and P.A. Madhavan, MLAs; Kalamandalam vice-chancellor P.N. Suresh; Registrar K.K. Sundaresan; district panchayat president K.V. Dasan; and DCC president O. Abdurahman Kutty participated.
