Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Tuesday said that the order to probe the alleged foreign funding to Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was issued following a Delhi High Court directive.

Mr. Shinde’s statement came following allegations by the AAP that the Centre was engaged in “witch hunt” and “political vendetta” by ordering the “selective” probe and not investigating into the funding of other political parties.

“We have ordered the enquiry after the Delhi High Court took note of the matter and passed instructions. The foreigners division [of the Ministry of Home Affairs] has sent a detailed questionnaire [on the funding issue] to the AAP under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA)…We are waiting for their reply,” Mr. Shinde told journalists.
