President Pranab Mukherjee presented the National Safety Awards (mines) for the years 2008, 2009 and 2010 at a function organised by the Union Labour & Employment Ministry here on Wednesday. The awards were given to 102 recipients.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mukherjee said this was a time of introspection as issues like increased mechanisation, protection of environment, social demand on safety at workplace, large-scale introduction of information technology in the mining industry, more difficult geo-mining locales and cost considerations posed challenges to the mining industry.
“In this changed scenario, all stakeholders will constantly need to stay a step ahead of the learning curve and continuously re-invent business and technological processes,” he added.
