V.K. Saraswat, Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Director-General, on Thursday called for popularising the study of electronics.

Chairing a plenary session on strategic electronic sector at the 98 {+t} {+h} Indian Science Congress at SRM University near here, Dr. Saraswat said that several steps were being taken to provide the exposure of the study of electronics to the youth, the subject was not taught in a formal sense. 

Y.S. Mayya, Chairman and Managing Director of the Electronics Corporation of India Limited, said national policies, in future, should focus on intellectual property creation and retention and ownership of design knowhow by Indian industry.  The pool of expertise and skill base available in nation's institutions, laboratories, public and private enterprises should be synergised.

Shiban K. Koul, Professor, Centre for Applied Research in Electronics, Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, said small form factor, easy scalability, low production cost, high efficiency and multi-functionality would be the requirements of the strategic radio frequency electronic circuits in future.
