The State Government’s new experimental policy to extend the timings of the liquor bars and restaurants in the city by two hours is expected to take effect from coming Friday. Home Minister K.J. George said the order relating to eateries would be effective from Monday while the order relating to excise would be effective only from Friday. It is now for the Excise Commissioner to issue the relevant order.

Chief Secretary to the State Government, Kaushik Mukherjee, at whose instance a preparatory meeting was held to extend the timings, told The Hindu that 100 motor vehicles at a cost of Rs. 5 crore has been approved for the Bangalore City police with immediate effect to ensure maintenance of law and order following the deadline extension. Further 2000 home guards will also be provided for this purpose.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary to the State Government, Home and Transport, S. K Pattanayak, City Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar and the Excise Commissioner Shambhu Dayal Meena.
