The Madras High Court bench here on Friday dismissed a petition seeking ban on the release of Bollywood movie ‘Madras Café’ in Tamil Nadu. In his petition, C. Ezhilarasu, an advocate, said the movie was a political thriller set in the backdrop of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination. The petitioner alleged that the film, which is slated to be released worldwide on August 23, portrayed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadre as terrorists.

He claimed that Sri Lankan president Mahindra Rajapaksa financed the movie to “hide the human rights violation, to justify the killings of Tamils by the country's military and earn a good name ahead of the Commonwealth conference in Sri Lanka in November”.

He wanted the film to be censored afresh, taking into consideration the sentiments of the Tamil people.

The case came up for admission before Justice S. Manikumar. He dismissed the case with the observation that the petitioner did not have any material to support his claims.
