One person was killed when a crude bomb exploded at Baidyabati station in West Bengal's Hooghly district on Thursday.
The incident took place at about 1-30 p.m. It is believed that the victim, a 50-year-old rag-picker, was carrying a bag containing a crude bomb on the platform, said Samir Goswami, chief public relations officer for Eastern Railway.
Attempts were made to rush him to the hospital, but he died on the way.
The identity of the man or why he was carrying the bomb has not been established, but from his belongings it seems that he was a rag-picker, Mr. Goswami added.
Despite the commotion, train services remained unaffected.
