: The National Youth League (NYL), an affiliate of the Indian National League (INL), said here on Thursday that the removal of party State general secretary P.M.A. Salam, MLA, was against the constitution of the party.
NYL State president K.M.A. Jaleel and vice-president Yusuf Padanilam told a press conference that only the State council of the party was authorised to remove a State-level office-bearer. Later, this decision would have to be endorsed by the all-India committee. The national executive on January 22 would take a final decision on the recent developments, they said.
[Mr. Salam was sacked from the post for reportedly advocating merger of the INL with the Indian Union Muslim League. A section of his supporters also campaigned with the United Democratic Front during the three-tier local body polls. At the same time a section of INL workers had left the party and floated the INL (Secular) and had electoral alliance with the Left Democratic Front.]
