Eight persons, including three here, have been reported killed in the storm that hit various districts of West Bengal on Wednesday evening, said the State’s Disaster Management dept. here on Thursday.

A Nor’wester with a maximum wind speed of 116 km per hour ripped through Kolkata and various other districts. More than hundreds of trees were uprooted and train services were affected for a while.


The State government has announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to the families of each of the victims.
