The Janata Dal (United) and the Bharatiya Janata Party filed nominations for three Council seats for which a by-election is scheduled to be held on May 9.

The JD (U) has nominated the former Minister Manjar Alam and Rajkishore Kushwaha to contest the poll. The BJP has fielded Vivek Thakur, son of the party’s national vice-president C.P. Thakur.

The by-elections were necessitated by the death of Rashtriya Janata Dal MLCs Badshah Prasad Azad and Ramchandra Prasad, and JD (U) MLC Ramashraya Prasad Singh.

The candidates submitted their nominations in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and other leaders.

Mr. Kumar said the JD (U) nominated candidates for two and the third being given to the BJP. As coalition partners, the two parties worked with understanding and cooperation, he said.
