NEW DELHI: There was no scope for mediation by a third party in disputes between India and Pakistan, the External Affairs Ministry spokesman reaffirmed on Thursday. The clarification came in the wake of news agency reports that Saudi Arabia had set in motion efforts to mediate between India and Pakistan.

According to the spokesman, India and Pakistan were engaged in a bilateral dialogue process to address their differences.

A PTI report from Dubai quoted Saudi Crown Prince Sultan as saying: "[Saudi] King Abdullah has set in motion efforts to mediate between India and Pakistan. We hope that he will succeed in his efforts."

It may be recalled that the Saudi King had visited both India and Pakistan earlier in the year.
