In the firing line for carrying out recruitments towards the end of his term, Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) H. Maheshappa on Thursday told The Hindu that all interviews had been postponed to “avoid any controversy.”
He defended the recruitment drive, saying it had started in February, but was temporarily stalled as the model code of conduct for the Assembly elections came into effect.
“I have no personal interest in any of the interviews. The government is saying a VC cannot carry out recruitments and major financial transactions in the last three months of his/her tenure. Then what work are we supposed to do,” an irate Prof. Maheshappa asked.
