No case of mysterious fever has been reported in and around Vedaranyam and strict action will be taken against rumour mongers, said Collector T. Munusamy.
In a press release issued here on Monday, the Collector referred to a rumour that some persons had been afflicted with mysterious fever in and around Vedaranyam. A team of Health officials visited the Government Hospital and found that eight patients were being treated for typhoid and viral fever. Blood samples analysed at the Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital has proved negative for dengue or any serious fever.
However, the district administration, without taking chances, had deputed 15 teams of health officials to Vedaranyam, Thopputhurai and Thethakudi and fogging had been taken up. Disinfectant had been sprayed at places with stagnant waters along with bleaching powder to check the spread of any epidemic. Drinking water had also been chlorinated.
The Collector appealed to the public not to give credence to any rumour and seek the assistance of the Collectorate or the nearest hospital. Strict action would be taken against rumour mongers, he warned.
