NEW DELHI: Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Wednesday denied reports that China had encroached on Indian territory in the eastern sector. “There is no change in the Line of Actual Control. There is only a difference in perception,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar.
On his visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday to review the security situation in the wake of India withdrawing 30,000 troops in the last two years and an escalation in confrontation between the militants and security forces, he said, “I told them to study the situation.”
The Defence Minister said Chief of the Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor would take some disciplinary action against four Army officers involved in a land scam in Darjeeling.
The Army has already started the process of disciplining the officers – Lieutenant General P.K. Rath, Military Secretary Lieutenant General Avadesh Prakash, 11 Corps Commander Ramesh Halgali and Major General P. Sen.
General Kapoor forwarded a report to Mr. Antony on Tuesday night in which he has reportedly recommended action against the officers including dismissal from service for one of them.
“At this stage, it is too early on my part to comment on this,” Mr. Antony said.
