The Neyveli Lignite Corporation has rejuvenated 30-year-old giant mining machinery called “bucket-wheel excavator” at a cost of Rs. 45.27 crore.
After reconditioning the machinery that was in use in the Mine-II would have its lifespan extended by another 15 years. NLC Chairman-cum-Managing Director B. Surender Mohan commissioned the overhauled machinery, which had so far logged in 1.24 lakh hours, at the specialised mining equipment erection yard on Friday.
A statement from the NLC stated that the machinery was supplied by the erstwhile Buckau Wolf, a German company (presently Thyssenkrupp Resource Technologies) in May 1983. The machinery that had so far logged in 1.24 lakh working hours was totally dismantled and faulty spares replaced for its revival.
Two modern additional features such have been incorporated.
