The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a report in The Hindu on December 23 about the killing of a teenager during a raid at a Maoist camp and issued notices to the Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, seeking reports into the incident within four weeks.
The police allegedly fired at tribal children killing Chainu Mandawi and arrested nine others on December 12.
A few armed Maoists present at the camp escaped and the police rounded up the children and sent them to a remand home.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the Press report, if true, raised a serious issue of violation of human rights of the children.
Reportedly, about 240 policemen raided the Maoists camp which was close to Sitram and Bala villages in Paralkot Reserve Forest area in Sitram town of the State.
