A newborn was stolen from the Jayachamarajendra Hospital here on Thursday.
According to the police, Hemalatha of Madihalli in Belur taluk delivered a boy at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
In her complaint filed with the Hassan Town police, Ms. Hemalatha said that around 3.30 p.m., a woman with whom she had developed acquaintance in the hospital came to see the baby and wanted to know if she required any help.
The woman was an attendant of a patient in the same ward. “The woman took the baby on the pretext of getting him vaccinated. However, she did not return,” a shocked Ms. Hemalatha told reporters.
Ms. Hemalatha, a mother of two girls, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday. She had no attendants except her physically challenged father.
