Dr. Arun Diwakar Nath Bajpai, Professor of Economics in the Department of Post-Graduate Studies and Research at Rani Durgawati Vishwavidyalya in Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), has been appointed the new Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University by the Chancellor, State Governor Urmila Singh.
Dr. Bajpai, who joins as the 24th Vice-Chancellor, would replace Prof. Sunil Kumar Gupta, who completed his tenure on April 9.
The term of the office would be three years.
Before this, Dr. Bajpai was Vice-Chancellor of Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa (Madhya Pradesh), and Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramoday University.
He has authored two books and has about 70 research papers to his credit.
He specialises in Economics of Infrastructures, Energy and Environment.
Dr. Bajpai was a member of the International Association of Energy Economists, Indian Economic Association and Indian Society of Labour Economics. He is the second academician from Jabalpur University to join as V-C of Himachal University. Before him, Prof. H. P. Dixit was appointed V-C in mid-1990s.
A number of academicians from the hill State, and a few from outside, had applied for the post this time round. Interestingly, almost all eligible professors from the BJP-controlled Himachal University teachers' cell had applied.
In another development, the Governor has re-appointed Dr. K. R. Dhiman as V-C of Dr. Y. S. Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry in Solan for a second three-year term.
