B.T. Venkatesh is SPP-2 and K.R. Keshavamurthy Additional SPP

The State government has appointed Narayan Reddy as the new State Public Prosecutor (SPP) replacing S. Doreraju even as Mr. Doreraju’s petition seeking a direction to the State to continue him in the post till January 2014, is pending before the Karnataka High Court.

The appointment is part of the process of changing the legal team representing the government before the High Court, following a new party coming to power in the State. Successive governments have been choosing the legal team, including the Advocate General, of their own.

Fifty-three-year-old Mr. Reddy has been practicing in various fields of law for the past 25 years in the High Court and sub-ordinate courts in Bangalore.

He was an honorary professor of law at V.V. Puram Law College for about eight years teaching Indian Penal Code.

Mr. Reddy said that assisting the High Court in speedy disposal of criminal cases and presenting prosecution cases with an independent perspective in the court without prejudices were among his goals.

Mr. Doreraju filed the petition based on a newspaper report that the government was discontinuing his service before completion of his tenure of two years.

Meanwhile, B.T. Venkatesh has been appointed SPP-2, K.R. Keshavamurthy as Additional SPP and A.S. Ponnanna as Principal Government Advocate .
