TDP chief to tour Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts
Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has decided to tour Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts on May 13, 14 and 15 to highlight the plight of the farmers unable to get minimum support price (MSP) for paddy.
Mr. Naidu's tour assumes significance in the light of the fast being undertaken by YSR Congress leader, Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy in Guntur on May 15, other political parties' struggle and the outcome of the by-elections in Kadapa/Pulivendula on May 13.
The tour programme was announced by TDP MP Nama Nageswara Rao and MLA, E. Dayakar Rao here on Wednesday. The polit bureau of the party meeting here on Thursday would discuss the farmers' problems besides resolutions to be adopted in the Mahanadu.
Mr. Naidu asked the party's Araku MLA Siveri Soma to lead the tribals' agitation against china clay mining project in Visakhapatnam district.
In a statement, Mr. Naidu said it was unfortunate that the authorities were not respecting the majority view among the tribals which was against allotment of 38.57 acres for mining of 61.17 lakh tonnes of china clay. Extending support to the tribals' struggle, he said any injustice to them would not be tolerated. In another statement, polit bureau member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu expressed concern at the way mining rights were given to non-tribals in tribal areas on benami names.
