The death of an inmate of Central prison was shrouded in mystery here in Rajahmundry on Monday. RDO M. Venugopal Reddy has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of prisoner, Devara Tulasi Srinivas (28), who belonged to Dagguluru village of Palakol mandal in West Godavari district.

According to details available, Srinivas was lodged in the Central prison here as remand prisoner on December 8, 2011 on rape charge and was sentenced on April 13, 2012. He complained of severe chest pain on October 19 and was shifted to Government general hospital where he died on Sunday night.

Prison authorities claimed that they informed his relatives immediately, but the family members reached the government hospital only on Monday. The family members expressed shock over the death of Srinivas as he was well last week. The relatives alleged that they were not informed when Srinivas was admitted into hospital. Mr. Venugopal Reddy, who visited the mortuary where the body was kept, ordered post-mortem and asked for a medical report. He said that the reason for the death would be sent to the government based on the medical report.
