In yet another case of moral policing, a Muslim youth was thrashed allegedly by a group of right wing activists for talking to a Hindu classmate in Puttur on Monday.

According to the police, at around 1 p.m., Zubair (21), a student of a computer training institute, was returning home when a gang of eight men surrounded him and assaulted him with rods and sticks at Nellikatte near Puttur bus-stand in full public view. Zubair was injured in his head, shoulders and torso. Onlookers shifted him to a government hospital for medical treatment.

The attackers fled from the scene, and the police are yet to identify them.

In his complaint to the Puttur Town Police station, Zubair said the gang of men allegedly raised objection to him talking to Hindu girls in the class.
