Music maestro Ustad Azizuddin Khan passed away on Tuesday, reports PTI quoting family sources. He was 90.

An illustrious member of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana, the vocalist breathed his last in his ancestral house here. He is survived by three sons.

Affectionately called Baba among his disciples, Azizuddin Khan along with his father Bhurji Khan, another doyen of classical music, settled in Kolhapur at the request of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. Originally from Uniara, Rajasthan, he was initiated into the khayal-based singing style of the gharana by his legendary grandfather who trained him for over 12 years.

Some of his noted disciples include Mallikarjun Mansur, Dhondutai Kulkarni and Shruti Sadolikar-Katkar.

The Jaipur-Atrauli gharana is a khayal-based stylised singing school founded by his grandfather Alladiya Khan in the late 19th Century. An offshoot of the Agra gharana, it gained prominence in the early half of the 20th Century. - PTI
