More and more youngsters in this city are displaying an interest in donating their bodies for study and medical research purposes after they pass away.

According to officials from the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), at least 30 such persons sign up every year with the hospital. A majority of them are youngsters who feel they should make a contribution to society even after their lifetime. This year, the CMCH had received three bodies so far.

Most of them mention the pledge in their will and the relatives ensure that the body is handed over the college authorities. “In the last five years,” an official said, “there has been only one instance of a family refusing to give away the body.”
