Most students whom the Arunachal Pradesh delegation met on Saturday expressed the need for multiple helpline numbers for quick redressal of problems as the number announced by the police was not reachable or busy most of the times.

Viko Mere pointed out that when he finally got through, the voice at the other end spoke Kannada. “I only understand English and Hindi. I’m tired of listening to the government’s assurances. We don’t want assurances; we want immediate action.”

The Hindu also found that the helpline number 9480801020 remained busy most of the times calls were made.

A police source said: “We have received several calls since morning. If the incidents are severe we are passing them on to the government.”
