The 16 YSRC legislators belonging to ‘Seemandhra’ resigned on their own and it was not a party stand, YSRC leader Bajireddy Govardhan said here on Sunday after a meeting of party leaders from Telangana region.

Virtual revolt

Following the resignation of the MLAs recently protesting against the attitude of the Congress in deciding on bifurcation of the State, there was a virtual revolt from Konda Surekha, K.K. Mahender Reddy and a few other senior Telangana leaders of the party, who announced that they were distancing from YSRC.

Mr. Govardhan said the resignations were in protest against the drama being enacted by the Congress and the Centre.

He said the party was committed to the resolution adopted at the plenary held at Idupulapaya in 2011 in which it was stated that any decision taken by the ruling party should be acceptable to people of all regions. The same stand was also mentioned at the all party meeting convened by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

He recalled that the resolution also mentioned that YSRC respected the sentiments of Telangana people.

Mr. Govardhan said the party also did not put up contestants against Telangana TRS and TDP legislators when they resigned out of respect to Telangana sentiment.

OUJAC protest

Staff Reporter adds: Mild tension prevailed in front of the office of YSRC at Jubilee Hills when a few students of Osmania University JAC staged a demonstration protesting against the resignation of party legislators from the Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions over the State bifurcation issue.

Irate students raised slogans denouncing the attitude of MLAs.

The legislators were trying to create hurdles for the formation of Telangana by submitting their resignations, students alleged. Police immediately swung into action and detained the protestors.
