The police are investigating a threat letter that was sent to West Bengal State Election Commissioner Mira Pande, from Katulpur in the State’s Bankura district.

 It came at a time the election panel and the State government are locked in a legal tussle on matters relating to security for the upcoming rural polls in the State.

Security stepped up 

Security for Ms. Pande had been stepped up, said a senior official of the Home department on Friday.

 The letter, that reached the office on Thursday, was referred to the department which instructed the police to probe the matter.

 Ms. Pande had received threat letters last month too and the Home department had been apprised of it.
