Maharashtra Youth Congress activist Kunal Raut and four of his accomplices were granted bail by the Additional District Judge, Pipariya in Hoshangabad district, in an assault case. Kunal, a commercial pilot, is the son of Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Nitin Raut.
It is said Kunal and his friends, driving from Nagpur to the hill station of Pachmarhi, picked up a fight with toll gate attendants near the Denwa river on Tuesday. When forest officials from a neighbouring checkpost came to the aid of the attendants, Mr. Kunal’s group thrashed all of them, including Deputy Range Officer Ejaz Ahamad. Kunal also allegedly threatened them, saying he was a Minister’s son.
Two separate FIRs were filed in Pipariya charging Kunal and his friends with assault and obstructing a public servant from performing his duty. The location at Pachmarhi where the police traced them had only one exit route. Bandobust was arranged on the route and the youths were arrested as they drove back in their SUV on Thursday.
A magistrate sent them to 15 days’ judicial remand, after which they appealed to the Additional District Judge’s court.
Ajay Sharma, IG, Hoshangabad range, told The Hindu : “The local police will file the charge sheet as they normally do. Bail is something the court decides and it will not affect investigation.”
