With the aim of eradicating the evil of dowry, Gujarat Minister Parshottam Solanki on Saturday conducted the wedding of his youngest daughter at a mass ceremony here along with 64 other couples also tying the knot.
“I feel the mass marriage system will eliminate the dowry system. I have been supporting it for the past 30 years. My two elder daughters Deepmala and Chetna too got married at a mass marriage ceremony. Today my youngest daughter Jignisha also got married the same way,” Mr. Solanki told PTI here.
A total of 65 marriages would be solemnised at the SRPF ground in suburban Goregaon. Altogether 38 Maharashtrian and 27 Gujarati weddings would take place at the ground.
The Odhavji Ramji Solanki Trust, named after the Minister's father, conducted the mass ceremony.
The marriages are conducted in accordance with the rituals of the community to which the couples belong, he said. — PTI
